About the position:

Currently, we are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to join our Accounting team based from Burnaby, BC. This position reports to the Payroll Supervisor.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision and administration of the company's Union and Hourly payrolls and for the timely and accurate delivery of payroll and related client service, including recordkeeping and reporting.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist with supervising of the payroll team as necessary to support the Payroll Supervisor
  • Assist with the preparation and processing of the bi-weekly payroll for union and hourly staff
  • Reviewing Union contracts for payroll effects and implementation
  • Benefits Administration
  • Reporting and remitting regulatory payments, i.e. CRA, WCB, Union
  • Reconcile year-end payroll records and prepare T4's
  • Prepare termination payments and prepare Records of Employment
  • Preparation of payroll journals, accruals and remittances
  • Review payroll systems controls and procedures, make recommendations and assist in improvements to increase efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • Assist Payroll Supervisor with staff management and development through delegation, coaching, mentoring and performance reviews
  • Other Accounting duties as required

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Accomplished leader with a drive to provide exceptional customer service
  • 5 years minimum of solid payroll experience in a leadership capacity
  • Exceptional knowledge of payroll and accounting practices and principles
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation, or working towards, an asset
  • Strong understanding of CRA regulations
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel may be tested
  • Flexibility to adapt to a fast paced and high volume environment
  • Proven superior teamwork skills complemented by the ability to work well independently
  • Experience in a Union Environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to speak, read and write English fluently
  • Highly organized, detail orientated with the ability to problem solve
