About the position:

Currently, we are seeking a Business Development (BD) Specialist to join our Vancouver Island BD Team. The BD Specialist will plan and carry out sales and BD activities for Houle in our Power Quality Division and be responsible for building trusting relationships with our customers.

The BD Specialist will report directly to the Service Division Manager and work closely with other Division Managers and Project Manager/Estimators across Houle. The position is based from Victoria or Nanaimo, with travel across Vancouver Island required.


  • To develop unprecedented relationships within your key accounts, know the full range of personnel within these organizations to ensure Houle's interest are represented
  • Be the key interface between our customers and all relevant Divisions in Houle.
  • Play an integral role in new business pitches
  • Maintain and build on the existing customer base
  • Work plan approach and pitches. Work with the teams within to develop proposals that speak to the client's needs, concerns and objectives, continual follow up and check-ins with the client to ensure we are bringing in the most up to date info on a project.
  • Mediate customer's issues and concerns in a professional manner, gather information from the customers and bring it back within Houle so that we can develop a solution to help our customers and continue to maintain a good relationship with our customers.
  • Attend industry related functions, such as Association events, tradeshows and conferences, provide feedback and information on market and creative trends
  • Finding new strategies and analyze business trends within these organizations to report back where we need to look at for future growth.
  • Promote Houle throughout the engineering firms, architectural firms, industrial end users, etc.
  • Communicate with suppliers to maintain strong partnerships and possible additional leads
  • Complete reporting as required by the management team
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.


  • 5+ years of related work experience, previous experience in a related industry an asset
  • Proven ability to sell and close
  • Exceptional people skills and a proven team player
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of sales
  • Knowledge of customer service principles
  • Knowledge of basic business principles
  • Experience in making presentations
  • Ability to influence others
  • Superior verbal and written communication
